Alexander Bridger is a Newfoundland-born composer and multi-instrumentalist with a unique musical practice continually in flux. Bridger has performed as a guitarist and accordionist at Montreal International Jazz Festival and POP Montréal, and his instrumental compositions have been premiered by leading ensembles in Toronto, Halifax, Montreal, and St. John’s, including Continuum Contemporary Music and Alkali Collective.
Bridger is currently developing his first opera with support from Fonds de Recherche du Québec (FRQ) and SSHRC research scholarships. Under the supervision of Ana Sokolović at Université de Montréal, his research-creation efforts explore the fusion of Newfoundland traditional music with psychedelic rock and mid-century modernist aesthetics into an eclectic contemporary musical idiom. Recent chamber works have been premiered by the internationally acclaimed Quatuor Bozzini, as well as Juno-nominated guitarist, Steven Cowan. His orchestral work, LUH! premiered at Montreal’s iconic Maison Symphonique in April 2026, and his Centaur’s Arrow for wind orchestra was performed by Orchestre à Vents Non Identifié in May 2026.

Alexander Bridger est un compositeur et multi-instrumentiste originaire de Terre-Neuve, dont la pratique musicale est en constante évolution. Il s’est produit comme guitariste et accordéoniste au Festival international de jazz de Montréal et à POP Montréal, et ses œuvres instrumentales ont été créées à Toronto, Halifax, Montréal et St. John’s, notamment par Continuum Contemporary Music, Alkali Collective, et l’Orchestra à Vents Non-Identifié.
Bridger développe actuellement son premier opéra avec le soutien du Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) et d’une bourse de recherche du CRSH. Sous la direction de Ana Sokolović à l’Université de Montréal, ses travaux de recherche-création explorent l’intégration de la musique traditionnelle terre-neuvienne dans un langage musical contemporain. Des œuvres récentes ont été créées par le Quatuor Bozzini, ainsi que par le guitariste classique nommé aux prix Juno, Steven Cowan. Sa nouvelle œuvre, LUH! pour orchestre symphonique, a été créée à la Maison symphonique de Montréal en avril 2026.
